THE PERSEVERANCE PROJECT BY:

BRYAN HOLDEN STUDIO

WELCOME!

My name is Bryan Kelly Holden, I am a contemporary conceptual artist based in Louisville, Kentucky.
Years ago, with hope that it would enrich people’s lives, I created an inspirational work of art entitled “Perseverance." It was created with 6,534 keys from 781 computer keyboards and required 347 hours of dedicated service to complete. Meticulously, placing each key to create a body of text regarding the theme of perseverance in life. My son, Mason, and I are now delighted to be offering premium reproduction prints of the original “Perseverance” artwork. These prints are printed on aluminum, Masonite or paper and are offered in varying sizes, ranging from 12” x 8” to 72” x 48”. Joining The Perseverance Project is our latest work of art entitled "maerD eW rehtegoT" “Together We Dream”, and we are offering prints of the original Together We Dream artwork in sizes ranging from 13.5” x 8” to 81” x 48”. We hope you will enjoy learning more about The Perseverance Project, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to place an order. Thank you! Bryan and Mason

ABOUT THE ORIGINAL "PERSEVERANCE" ARTWORK:

The most inspirational person in the history of mankind inspired me to create Perseverance. Perseverance is about the behavior we exhibit while trying to achieve success with anything in life, despite difficulty. It is a piece about life and inspiration; about what you can overcome and about what you can become and achieve. From a distance, the artwork projects an image like an old black and white photograph, which refers to the past, while simultaneously linking together the future with the use of the computer keys; thus, showing we, as human beings, have continued to persevere throughout the creation of human life. As you are drawn closer, you may notice that the piece offers much more than first glance permits. Each key was meticulously placed to create a body of text regarding the theme of perseverance in life. Consciously and intentionally each key was left as it was discovered, as to represent the diversity of the individuals whom the keys were donated from. I strived to create a piece that exemplifies willpower, conviction, strength and character; hopefully it will motivate others to be the best that they can be, if they believe. Bryan Kelly Holden “Perseverance” was created with 6,534 keys from 781 computer keyboards and required 347 hours of dedicated service to complete this masterwork.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Bryan Kelly Holden (B. 1962) was born in Louisville, Kentucky and has lived and worked there his entire life. Since 1995, he has maintained a full-time studio in an old turn of century firehouse, located in the historic Portland neighborhood. Holden studied under the guidance and influence of his father, where he learned about conceptual thought, creativity, intricacy and superior craftsmanship. He continues his studies to this day, on his own. Essentially being a self-taught artist, he considers his life experiences to be his education. In 1989 Holden started creating sculpture and working with more traditional raw materials and then while conceptualizing his latest group of work, it led him to use unconventional media. Early in his career he also created many functional pieces of art. His work is continuously evolving and refining and has changed monumentally since 2012, when he started his Deconstruction series of work. Stretched across a vast range of media, Holden creates contemporary, inventive and complex two and three-dimensional conceptual work. His Deconstruction series of work serves as the foundation for an ongoing investigation of human behavior and how it affects people and those around them. Often using repurposed, common and uncommon collected materials related to the particular behavior he is addressing. Holden’s works are in the public collections of Humana Health Care, Brown-Forman Corporation, The Helen Keller Foundation, The City of Louisville, National Public Radio, The University of Louisville and many others. Also, Bryan’s work can be found in private collections throughout the United States, as well as in Dubai, Germany, Canada, Italy, Sweden and the UK.

"THE WORDS OF PERSEVERANCE"

— Bryan Kelly Holden Located at the bottom of the site, you can find a complete listing of "The Words of Perseverance” as they are on the original artwork and prints.
"Courage does not always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow. Perseverance…. 4AMH" Above is the last phrase and one of many that the Perseverance artwork presents. It represents how my parents, especially my father, raised me, guiding by example that your failures are lessons of life, and you rise from them with will, renewed knowledge, faith, and character. To this day, I continue to live by this conviction.

THE BLESSING OF A PATRON

When you buy something from an artist, you are buying more than an object. You are buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You are buying years of frustrations and moments of pure joy. You are not only buying just one thing, you are buying a piece of a soul…. a small piece of someone else’s entire life. -unknown author

PRINTING PROCESS ON ALUMINUM AND MASONITE:

DYE-SUBLIMATION ONTO ALUMINUM AND MASONITE: Sublimation onto aluminum and Masonite is a process of infusing dyes into a sheet of pre-treated aluminum or Masonite via heat transfer. Sublimation is the process of going from a solid to a gas, back to a solid – skipping the liquid state. Once the dyes submerge underneath the surface, the process is complete and permanent. THE PROCESS: The image is first printed onto a transfer paper via inkjet technology. Then the paper is adhered to a sheet of pre-treated aluminum or Masonite. It is then put into a heat press where the temperature is reaching between 350-400 degrees. While being subjected to extreme heat and pressure the dyes from the transfer paper turn into a gas, are pressed into the surface of the aluminum or Masonite, and then solidify into the treated aluminum or Masonite. This is where the sublimation/heat transfer occurs. The transfer process takes between 3-10 minutes per press. Once out of the press, the aluminum and Masonite cools and the process is complete. There is no additional coating or laminate applied after the sublimation process. As the dyes cool, they are permanently infused beneath the surface of the metal substrate. ARCHIVAL: Archival life span of 65 plus years SCRATCH RESISTANT: Dyes are infused beneath the exterior surface coating through sublimation. This makes it more durable than traditional paper and canvas imaging because it can’t be scratched or peeled off the surface. WIPEABLE: No need to worry about fingerprints or blemishes on the surface. A microfiber cloth and household cleaner can be used to clean the print. Perfect for public spaces and other high traffic areas. LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO INSTALL WITH INCLUDED HARDWARE: Though extremely rigid and durable, the aluminum is lightweight and easy to hang. A 60” x 40” print with an aluminum float backing frame weights approximately 13lbs. FIRE RETARDANT: Sublimated aluminum holds up against high heat. Necessary for artwork hung in specific corporate and public environments, which meets today’s fire rated standards. NO GLASS: After the heat transfer process, the artwork is completed. No additional UV acrylic or glass needed to protect the artwork.

THE PICTURES DON'T DO THEM JUSTICE!

Above is an image of an actual 69" x 40.875" print on aluminum.
One of the main compliments we receive when someone sees their print in person is that it far exceeds their expectations. Also, people ask when looking at the large-scale aluminum prints. Are these the original artworks? You need to see them in person to appreciate the quality.
